VET & Assessment Practices

Vocational Education Courses in Australia can have certain challenges for International Students with numerous jargons. Vigil International College provides students with helpful material to better understand these rules. Some of these have been summarised below:
Competency-Based Assessment
The process of collecting evidence and making judgements on whether an individual has achieved competence. This confirms that an individual can perform in the workplace based on competency standards developed by relevant industry, enterprise, community, or professional groups.
Units of Competency
Learners are judged against competency standards (often called units of competency) developed by industry to assess whether they are competent. A competency standard comprises individual units of competency that include the essential information needed to assess a learner.
Evidence
This is used by an assessor to make a judgement about whether a learner is competent. It is the responsibility of the assessor to determine what and how much evidence is required to make the assessment judgement. These may be direct, indirect, or supplementary.
Assessment tools
Also called evidence-gathering tools – contain both the instrument and the instructions for gathering and interpreting evidence in an assessment process. The tasks to be administered to the learner, the outline of the evidence to be gathered from the learner and the evidence criteria used to judge the quality of performance are often  referred to as the assessment instrument.

Student Visa Conditions

There are numerous mandatory conditions on your Student Visa.
Here are a few common requirements of your Student Visa:

  • Valid Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE): You must always have a valid CoE and are expected to complete the course within the duration indicated on the CoE.
  • Know your Visa Expiry Date
Ensure that you apply for a new visa before your current visa expires.
Allowing your student visa to expire is a serious matter and may result in you being required to leave Australia and being subject to a 3-year ban from re-entering the country.
  • You must maintain adequate arrangements for health insurance during your stay in Australia.
  • You must tell your education provider the address where you live in Australia within seven days of arriving in Australia
